Glebe

The Glebe is located south of downtown Ottawa and is bordered by Highway 417, the Rideau Canal along the Queen Elizabeth Dr, continuing along Carling to Bronson Ave at the 417 once again. The Glebe itself used to be owned by St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church as Clergy Reserve in 1837 and was opened up to development in 1870. The term “glebe” was referred to the land that the church owned that was as part of a clergyman's benefice and providing income, which is why me call it The Glebe. Much of the Glebe consists of detached homes that were constructed in the early 20th century. Many are considered heritage status. What really began the attraction to the Glebe was the making of Lansdowne Park in 1847 which would hold the Central Canada Exhibition annually. To join Lansdowne park was the TD Place Arena which opened in 1967.

For those that take public transportation to and from work or school, the major OC Transpo route runs along Bank St and through Centretown. For those using the O-Train, it is a short distance walk to the Carling Ave Platform that will bring you to the Bayview Station or to Carleton Station, Mooney’s Bay, and ending at Greenboro Station.

Two Universities are within a short distance near The Glebe and that includes Ottawa University and Carleton University. Both have direct OC Transpo and O-Train lines to the campuses.

Lansdowne Park is one of The Glebe’s major attractions as it is home to the Aberdeen Pavilion which hosts many festivals and markets. Sports fans flood towards TD place to see the Ottawa Redblacks and Ottawa Fury or head into the arena to catch a 67’s game or concert.

The Aberdeen Pavilion hosts many events throughout the year, some are annual or a one time experience. The annual events include the 613 Flea and the Ottawa Farmers Market. The Aberdeen Square also hosts events which include the Ottawa Winter Brewfest that happens in February each year. Other events happen at TD Place which includes Ottawa Fury, The Ottawa Redblacks, as well as the 67’s games.

Just behind Lansdowne Park, just off Queen Elizabeth Dr is the fenced in Lansdowne Dog Park. This park has lots of room for your dog to run, play, and socialize! There is endless water supply areas to cool your pop down, as well as places for you to sit. This dog park is open year round and is well lit at night.

At Glebe Memorial Park, located at 75 Glendale Ave, is a splash pad that is open during the summer months. Each year the open and close dates change due to either weather or maintenance on the splash pad. To find out more information on the opening days and times, click here

Gym/Spin/Yoga: For those that are exercise enthusiasts, there are several locations in The Glebe for your use. There is Coach on the Run, Progressive Pilates, FITMOM Ottawa, Ottawa Barre + Cycle, BODY Viva, Adishesha Yoga Zone, and a Goodlife Fitness.
